GABRIELE PROVENZANO
Gabriele Provenzano (b. 1998), è un artista visivo che attualmente lavora in Italia. Ha studiato grafica d'arte presso l'Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze e scultura e arti performative a Torino. Ha approfondito queste discipline con un periodo di studio all'Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Łodzi, in Polonia. Nel corso degli anni ha sviluppato una pratica multidisciplinare che comprende scultura, performance e fotografia. Come artista punta a tradurre l’insieme delle sue esperienze in narrazioni visive e poetiche che servono ad esplorare quello che ama e quello che odia. Assorbe, elabora e crea la forma che ritiene più adatta a rappresentare inevitabilmente il personale, il sociale e l’ambiguo. Il suo lavoro più recente spesso include metafore basate sull'interspecismo contemporaneo ed archeozoologico: crea dei parallelismi con il mondo umano, interrogandosi sui meccanismi relazionali che attuano un processo di appiattimento, omologazione e costrizione dell’individuo e il suo rapporto distopico con gli altri esseri viventi e la natura. Attualmente conta delle mostre in Polonia, Germania e Turchia.

The future that awaits, during this specific historical moment, is not easy; it demolishes many of the expectations built up over the years. For this work, the Liver of Piacenza, a bronze instrument used for haruspicine, is transfigured according to a contemporary vision that questions a hypothetical and new divinatory art. The relationship between a visceral-animal interior and an immense exterior (the constellations, a geographical map) is overturned and moulded to give it a new graphic and symbolic connotation. The animal liver becomes human, the divinatory graffiti engraved on the original disappears, and the new symbols belong to a newer category, the meteorological and military cate gory of ‘NATO STANDARD MILITARY SYMBOLOGY’ (2017). Originally, from the liver of an animal, it was possible to determine essential decisions. From the inside, to the most extreme outside. Today, after all, a modern-day haruspex officer might have the same questions and geopolitical doubts.
